Grove 2 Skip

Grove 2 Skip can save time in 100% and All Dungeons by shortening the second Skull Kid chase and skipping the fight at the end. It also saves additional time in 100% by making it possible to exit the Lost Woods via the first Skull Kid arena, which does not set time of day to daytime as finishing the second Skull Kid fight does, which makes it possible to get the Master Sword pedestal poe soul on the way to Temple of Time instead of requiring a separate warp back later on.

Because Grove 2 Skip leaves the pushable block near the entrance to Temple of Time unpushed, alternative methods of reaching the dungeon entrance must be used, such as a jump strike moon boots to the entrance.

Moon Boots Method

Jump strike moon boots (JSMB) with a bomb boost let Link land on the jagged wall. This is currently the only Grove 2 Skip method that is both useful and RTA viable. Either of the two JSMB frames can work, but they require different release timings relative to the bomb:

• Case 1: release JS just as the bomb starts returning to black after the 7th red flash (2-frame window) and force unequip boots on the first moon boots frame (max height)
• Case 2: release JS around the peak of the 7th red flash (2-frame window) and force unequip boots on the second moon boots frame (lower height)

The two 2-frame windows mentioned above are adjacent and not overlapping. These timings cause the bomb to hit Link while he ascends; it is also possible to release JS earlier with other cues to get a boost while Link is descending instead. One common fail case is for the JSMB to bring Link so high that the explosion doesn't hit him at all. This is caused by getting max height moon boots (as in case 1 above) but with the JS release timing from case 2 above, which is 1-2f too early for the max height moon boots.

Visual cue

Line up the 3rd heart from the right with the line on the wall shown in the image. While the boost can be achieved with a wide range of angles around this one, there are some angles that will cause Link to slip off after the boost, so it is recommended to find one good cue and stick with it.

Double Backslice Boost Method

This method requires two RNG rupee drops from trees for two lots of rupee texts (make sure both 10r and 5r texts are avaible). Furthermore it requires juggling a rupee in the boomerang without picking it up early. This is why the method is not viable for runs.

1) Bombarrow the tree in the area for the first hit on skull kid during chase 1 and 2 to get a RNG yellow rupee.

2) Juggle this over using the boomerang to the steps you climb for the final hit during chase 1 as shown in the video. You can CS Drop the rupee where needed by drinking milk.

3) LJA over onto the other side of the trunk into the rupee. After the yellow rupee text backslice further up so you don't fall down, this requires the puppets to be in a good spot for targetting.

4) Boomarrow the tree by the steps to get a RNG blue rupee and boomerang it to Link.

5) Climb up as far as you can and then backslice up to the left into the blue rupee text. After the blue rupee text backslice further along again to get OoB, this requires the puppets to be in a good spot for targetting.

6) Now that you are OoB the rest is fairly straight forward. LJA over to the top rim of another part of Lost Woods, then do a backslice up a jagged wall to maintain being OoB (make sure puppets don't ruin your angle). Then LJA down into the skull kid fight 1 area.

7) You can now get the 100r chest if you want, bombarrow the rock early, it will be possible to get the poe by Master Sword Pedestal early as well.

8) You will need to do a backslice bomb boost by the enterance to skull kid fight 1 area to get to ToT after placing the Master Sword due to never pushing the block down.

Superjump Method (100%)

This method requires a super precise superjump off the random puppet enemies to get onto a jagged wall, you need to dig once on the wall to stop your momentum and use c-up before transforming so you don't fall off. This method is faster than the Double Backslice Boost Method and doesn't require RNG rupees, however getting the superjump itself isn't viable for RTA.

1) Find the area with jagged wall

2) Get a super precise superjump angle off of a puppet to land on the lowest part. Once up instantly dig to stop your forward momentum

3) Use C-Up before transforming so you don't push yourself off

4) Backslice all the way back up OoB, you can now LJA down into the skull kid fight 1 area.

5) You can now get the 100r chest if you want, bombarrow the rock early, it will be possible to get the poe by Master Sword Pedestal early as well.

6) You will need to do a backslice bomb boost by the enterance to skull kid fight 1 area to get to ToT after placing the Master Sword due to never pushing the block down.

Comparison of Superjump and Backslice methods

Superjump Method (Any)

After doing the superjump onto the wall, you can LJA over to the other wall and get up to the top without backslice.

You can get to the top level of Grove without backslice by doing a precise bomb boost over the Lost Woods load zone
