Remains Escape

This glitch puts boss remains into the inventory without immediately triggering the giant cutscene, allowing Link to die or void out to leave the dungeon and skip the remains cutscene entirely. While the boss remains do count towards playing Oath to Order to stop the moon, Remains escape (RE) does not clear the dungeon's area (e.g. Snowhead stays in winter after Goht Remains Escape). Both songless and ISoT/SoDT RE work because having the hookshot in Link's hands forces the game to put the remains in the inventory even when he's otherwise occupied in a pickup animation or ocarina state.

Songless Remains Escape

This is the faster way to perform the glitch, and it works the same way for all bosses except when Odolwa's remains are on the flower. It works on both the JP and English versions of the game.

  1. Pull a bomb and target walk forwards into the blue warp
  2. Shield drop the bomb near the center of the blue warp and backflip on the same frame (pause buffer for safety - inputting the backflip too late causes Link to pick up the remains)
  3. Quickdraw the hookshot and continue holding shield
  4. Still holding shield, press A on the frame Link's foot is barely outside the blue warp (pause buffer for safety)
  5. If done correctly, Link will be running in place as long as shield is still held
  6. Release shield shortly before the bomb explodes so that the bomb interrupts Link picking up the blue warp (for safety, begin holding R again after releasing it, as this will avoid picking up the remains if you released R too early)
  7. The remains are now in the inventory; deathwarp or void to exit the dungeon

Remains Escape with SoDT and ISoT

This method of remains escape is easier to execute and is useful when either SoDT or ISoT needs to be played anyway. This method works because the remains text boxes can't trigger the giant cutscene when they're cleared during a certain part of the SoDT and ISoT cutscenes. However, closing the remains text boxes at the wrong time will crash the game unless playing on the Switch (NSO), so follow the instructions below for closing them closely.

SoDT RE

One quirk of this method is that because the SoDT cutscene momentarily places Link at the origin point of the room, the trick works when the song is played anywhere in the room as long as the remains are in the center (Twinmold, sometimes Odolwa). However, while playing the song outside the blue warp will still put the remains in the inventory, it will also overwrite the ocarina with a fishing rod. So playing the song inside the blue warp as described below is usually best for speedruns; if you use this method and find that your ocarina has become a fishing rod, then you weren't far enough into the blue warp when you played the song.

  1. Pull the hookshot into Link's hand
  2. Run into the blue warp and pull ocarina; this is a 3f window, and if done correctly, Link's feet will clearly be fully inside the warp
  3. Play SoDT and press A to confirm, causing Link to pick up the remains
  4. Right when the remains text box begins filling with text, mash A and B to clear the text quickly and speed up the SoDT cutscene; this times the text boxes to finish at the right time for this song
  5. The remains are now in the inventory, so either deathwarp or void out + soar to leave the boss room

ISoT RE (JP)

This method only works on the JP version.

  1. Pull the hookshot into Link's hand
  2. Run into the blue warp and pull ocarina; this is a 3f window, and if done correctly, Link's feet will clearly be fully inside the warp
  3. Play ISoT and press A to confirm, causing Link to pick up the remains
  4. Mash c-up to clear the remains text boxes; this times the text boxes to finish at the right time for this song
  5. The remains are now in the inventory, so either deathwarp or void out + soar to leave the boss room

ISoT RE (Eng & JP)

This method risks crashing and is not recommended over songless RE.

  1. Set a metronome for 139bpm
  2. At 1/2 heart or less, drop a bomb and wait for the fast flashes to begin; this makes the bomb explode soon enough after the remains sound effect to get a quick deathwarp
  3. Run into the blue warp and pull ocarina; this is a 3f window, and if done correctly, Link's feet will clearly be fully inside the warp
  4. Play ISoT
  5. Tap the A button along with the metronome until Link dies
