Lost Woods/Beneath the Clock Tower

─── Beneath the Clock Tower ───

Keaton grass rupees

Notes by Imbued

You get about 4.2 rupees per second if you only detour for 3 rupees, and you get about 3.6 rupees per second if you detour for 6 rupees. If we compare this to the intro rupees, which are about a 9s detour (about 4.5s detour for each patch -- this assumes better than average execution btw, most people take more time), on average you get about 19 rupees which is a bit more than 2 rupees per second, even if you have exceptional luck and get 27 rupees, that is still only 3 rupees per second which is still worse than the rupees/second you get when collecting 6 rupees from the keaton bushes.

Tatl text skip

It is possible to skip Tatl's text on the last flower beneath the Clock Tower. From roughly the position shown in the video below, sidehop onto the flower, and continue holding A from the sidehop to make Link enter the flower immediately. This saves about a second over running into the text trigger.

Flower skip

Mid-spin, Link typically falls off of ledges instead of jumping, but it is possible to get a jump by timing a spin so that Link is facing roughly perpendicularly to the ledge when he reaches it. This can be used to jump across to the Butler's son instead of using the flower, saving about 1.5 seconds over using the flower with the Tatl text skip. There is a 2-frame window for the spin input.

Happy Mask Salesman cutscene skip (HMS)

This is a pause buffer cutscene skip. The trick works the same way on JP and on English, but because the camera acts differently on the two versions, the visual cue for releasing target is different. At Deku backwalk speed with the right positioning (see below), this requires a minimum of 10 pauses.

To reach the load zone in only 10 pauses, Link must backwalk into either door near (but not at) the center where the doors meet. The axle is centered on the double doors, so Link should be aligned just right of center or just left of center on the axle before backwalking. The JP video below demonstrates using the right side (Link's left foot just right of the black line on the floor), and the English video below demonstrates using the left side (Link's right foot atop/just right of the black line on the floor). The working x position ranges are -8.1 to -1.3 for the left side and 1.3 to 8.1 for the right side; i.e. neither side is more lenient than the other.

JP

  1. Target on the right or left side of the axle (see position notes above)
  2. Begin backwalking
  3. Pause buffer to advance 1f at a time, beginning a maximum of 14f after beginning to backwalk (1f before door becomes visible)
  4. After 5 buffered frames with the door visible, release target and continue holding down and buffering 1f at a time
  5. After 4 more buffered frames of holding down, Link has reached the load zone and the cutscene has been skipped

On the final pause, the door will audibly creak. If you unpause after the creak and the cutscene triggers, you were likely not in the right position on the axle when you began backwalking.

English

  1. Target on the right or left side of the axle (see position notes above)
  2. Begin backwalking
  3. Pause buffer to advance 1f at a time, beginning a maximum of 14f after beginning to backwalk
  4. After Link's hat has filled the screen and then the top of his head reaches the white line on the axle a few frames later, release target and continue holding down and buffering 1f at a time
  5. After 4 more buffered frames of holding down, Link has reached the load zone and the cutscene has been skipped

On the final pause, the door will audibly creak. If you unpause after the creak and the cutscene triggers, you were likely not in the right position on the axle when you began backwalking.
